The unexpected problems of operating a plastic-free luxury flight

Etihad will operate the second ever plastic-free flight this weekend when one of its Dreamliner aircraft makes the 13-and-a-half-hour trip from Abu Dhabi to Brisbane to raise awareness around one of the greatest environmental issues of a generation. The plane will land in Australia in time for Earth Day.

The service will eclipse the first plastic-free flight, undertaken by Portuguese carrier HiFly, travelling from Lisbon to Brazil on an Airbus A380 last year, and faces new challenges in Etihad’s attempts to maintain its luxury reputation while delivering on its sustainable promise.
